Your teenager wants a limousine. You want to know who is driving, where they are going, and what happens if the plan changes at eleven at night. Both of those are reasonable, and a properly arranged booking answers all of them.

This is written for the person paying and signing, not for the student. Here is what to ask, what to insist on, and what a good arrangement actually looks like.

Book It Yourself

The booking should be in a parent's name, with a parent's phone number, and the confirmation should come to a parent. That is not about mistrust — it is about who the chauffeur calls if something needs deciding on the night.

If a transport company is happy to take a booking from a seventeen-year-old with no parent involved, that tells you something about how the rest of the evening will be handled.

The Five Questions to Ask

1. Is the itinerary fixed, and who can change it?

This is the most important question. Agree the pickup addresses, the photo location, the venue and the end point in advance, and get it in writing.

Then ask directly: if the group asks to go somewhere else on the night, what happens? The right answer is that the chauffeur calls the parent who made the booking. The wrong answer is anything vague.

2. What is the alcohol policy, and is it enforced?

Every company will say alcohol is not permitted. The follow-up question is what the chauffeur actually does if it appears — and the answer should involve contacting you, not a quiet negotiation in the car park.

3. Is it the same chauffeur all night?

One licensed, background-checked chauffeur from the first pickup to the last drop-off. Not a handover halfway through, and not a different driver for the return leg. Continuity is most of what you are paying for.

4. Will I get the schedule and a contact number?

Before the night, not on the morning. Every parent on the booking should have the pickup times and a number they can call. If you cannot reach anybody at ten in the evening, the arrangement is not what you thought it was.

5. Is the company licensed and commercially insured?

Ask, and ask for proof if you want it. Chauffeured transport is regulated, and a legitimate operator will produce a certificate of insurance without hesitation.

How the Night Usually Runs

Most prom evenings follow the same shape, and knowing it helps you build a schedule that does not slip:

• Pickups from two or three homes, 30 to 45 minutes total
• Photo stop at somebody's house or a park — always longer than planned, allow 45 minutes
• Dinner, usually 90 minutes to two hours
• The venue, with a drop-off time set by the school
• Collection at the agreed end time and return to the agreed addresses

The vehicle should wait between stops rather than leaving and returning. A group of students standing outside a restaurant waiting for a car is exactly the situation you booked to avoid.

Splitting the Cost

Prom transport is priced hourly with a minimum, because the vehicle and chauffeur are held for the whole evening rather than doing a single journey.

Split across a group it becomes reasonable quickly. A stretch limousine for ten students costs each family a fraction of what the headline number suggests, and considerably less per head than several separate cars.

Agree who is collecting the money before you book, not afterwards. One parent booking and the others paying that parent is the arrangement that causes fewest problems.

Which Vehicle

Up to 10 students — a stretch limousine. It is the classic choice and the one that appears in the photographs. Note that ball gowns take more room than you expect, so ten is the practical maximum for twelve seats.

10 to 14 — a Sprinter van. Forward-facing seats, more room, and everyone arrives at the same time, which matters when photographs are scheduled.

Larger groups — a 28-passenger coach when several friendship groups book together. Lowest cost per student, and one chauffeur responsible for the whole group rather than three vehicles to coordinate.

When to Book

Prom season across Central Indiana lands almost entirely in April and May, and nearly every school holds it on a Saturday. Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Westfield, Center Grove and the rest are competing for the same vehicles on the same handful of nights.

Book by February. The stretch limousine goes first, usually well before then. Families who start looking in April are choosing from what is left.

What Good Looks Like

By the week of prom you should have: a written confirmation in your name, the vehicle and chauffeur assigned, pickup times for every address, a direct number that a person answers, and a clear statement of what happens if plans change.

If you have all of that, the evening is arranged. If you have a text message and a verbal promise, it is not.
